Reviews for Warung Mry
Review highlights
Based on 286 reviewsWarung Mry is widely praised for its authentic and flavorful Thai cuisine, noted especially for fresh seafood dishes and well-seasoned specialties like Pad Kapow and Tom Yam. Reviewers consistently highlight the restaurant’s affordability and excellent value, often remarking on the homecooked quality of the food. The establishment’s modest, unpretentious setting has drawn mixed expectations, with many acknowledging it as a charming, hidden gem rather than a fine dining venue. Overall, guests appreciate the exceptional taste and freshness, making it a popular choice for those seeking genuine Thai flavors in a casual atmosphere close to Langkawi’s beachside locale.
I tried the chicken Padkapow and Sticky rice mango. The food was so delicious that I came back twice to order the exact same thing! Super fresh, flavorful and affordable. The restaurant itself is small and charming. A true gem that’s absolutely worth visiting!
What an amazing place this is. Not sure why anyone would give it less than 5 stars (I’ve read some of those reviews before writing this and nitpickery seems to be the main issue with those patrons). Let’s be honest the restaurant is down a backstreet with a tarpaulin for a roof so if you’re expecting fine dining or silver service then this ain’t the place for you. However, the food is exceptional. It might not be exactly authentic Thai but what is on offer is bags of flavour and taste. They cook the food as the orders go in so one dish may be ready before any others but this is rough and ready dining and this place seems to be based around sharing food, so what’s the problem? We went at 19:45 and were the only people there as we sat down. The waiter guy was pleasant and we chose a selection of dishes - mainly shellfish (why wouldn’t you when you are this close to the sea). The golden tiger prawns were absolutely amazing and the lobster was outstanding. We also ordered the squid which was equally as good. Finished off with sticky rice and mango (something I saw someone complain about in another review - my wife has grown up eating this delicious sweet and had not a single bad word to say about it). I would absolutely recommend giving this place a go - it looks rough from the outside but is well worth pushing past appearance and investigating the menu and in particular the shellfish. Unfortunately the crab was not available tonight so guess where I’m going tomorrow?
Visited on 26 May 2025 for a late lunch with my mother after arriving in Langkawi. We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious and affordable the food was! The prawns were fresh, the fried rice was perfectly seasoned (not too salty), and we also enjoyed the oyster kailan and onion omelette. Everything tasted home-cooked and satisfying. We paid only RM39 for two people; excellent value for money. The owner and staff were friendly and welcoming, and although they spoke limited English, they tried their best to communicate with us. Highly recommend this humble and authentic local spot if you’re looking for a tasty meal in Langkawi!
The seafood Tom Yam here is one of the best on the island! Chicken skewers are simply delicious. Beef with black pepper - my compliments!
A small hidden gem just a short walk away from the beach. The food is so 10/10, we had the Thai style squid, fried noodle seafood and had the best ginger and onion chicken ever!
I was sceptical of the restaurant from the exterior but I was pleasantly surprised by the food. This is top notch Thai food Must haves are: sticky mango rice, Thai fried rice, black pepper prawn. But all other dishes were delicious as well. Came back twice on our short stay in Langkawi!
Local eatery where you serve yourself and pay based on what you take. Portions are generous, prices are very cheap, and the food is tasty. Great spot, popular with locals.
